Villèle Museum

Recommended
This museum is a must for anyone who wants to fully understand the history of La Réunion. This was the home of the Panon-Desbassyns, a rich landowning family equally linked to the development of the sugar industry and to the fanatical slavery it practised. A beautiful garden and a Pondichéry-style home - turned into a museum illustrating life in the 18C and 19C - are the backdrop for the tour, which sheds light on that era and the complex character of Mrs. Ombline Desbassyns. Fascinating!
