Little Karoo

The R 62 takes you into this region. Here, north of the Langeberg, a long valley planted in vineyards and fruit trees is hemmed in between the semi-arid mountains and their blaze of colours. Ostrich farming, which gave an economic boost to the area and to Oudtshoorn in the late 19C, has remained an important industry. Exploring the landscapes of Little Karoo is an unforgettable experience, from the verdant oases of towns such as Calitzdorp, where sweet Port wine is produced, to spectacular Swartberg Pass.
