California State Library

This Neoclassical granite building, built just west of the Capitol in 1926, boasts interior halls and reading rooms that feature Art Deco motifs and allegorical murals. Serving as a major archive and library of state history, the California Room (library annex building, 900 N St., Room 200; 916-654-8777), behind the main library, also hosts changing exhibits from its special document collections-such as photographs and political posters-on its rotunda mezzanine.
