Bank of California

Interesting
Now the Union Bank of California, this exquisite, classically proportioned bank (1907, Bliss & Faville) displays the energy and resources put into rebuilding San Francisco after the 1906 fire. A regal, coffered ceiling tops the magnificent banking hall, embellished with Corinthian pilasters. Stairs lead down to the tiny Museum of Money of the American West (open year-round Mon-Fri 9am-5pm; closed major holidays; 800-238-4486), displaying gold and silver currency circulated during the Gold Rush and Comstock mining bonanzas of the 19C.
