One of the country's leading museums, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) contains a comprehensive collection of more than 350,000 artworks organized in eight departments-Art of the Americas; Art of Europe; Contemporary Art; Art of Asia, Oceania and Africa; Art of the Ancient World; Prints, Drawings and Photographs; Textiles and Fashion Arts; and Musical Instruments. Items in the permanent collections are rotated throughout the year, and are complemented by an ongoing schedule of special exhibitions. Recent years have brought an ambitious program of renovation and expansion to the museum including renovations to existing areas and opening of new wing for American Art.
