Bharatpur The Essential
Recommended

Bharatpur, a large agricultural town standing in a cultivated plain, was, in the 18C, the capital of the only Jat kingdom of any importance in India. From this period it has conserved its imposing fortifications, although its main attraction is its bird reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is home to one of the world's most impressive congregations of birdlife: in this marshy depression, a paradise of greenery, visitors can - with the help of a guide - identify some of the 365 species of birds found here.
