Located in the heart of the Thar desert, the ochre-coloured buildings of this city founded in 1156 by Rao Jaisal appear like a mirage to visitors, some of whom arrive here in exotic and somewhat uncomfortable fashion on the back of a camel! A visit of the fort, a citadel within a citadel, is a must; here visitors can relive the history of Jaisalmer, a city attacked on numerous occasions.
