Tosa-Shimizu

Tosa-Shimizu
The Essential
This port town of 17,000 inhabitants lies on the south-western most coast of Shikoku Island, overlooking the Pacific Ocean in a region bathed by the Kuroshio Stream, Japanese equivalent of the Gulf Stream. Cape Ashizuri-misaki is just a few kilometres away, as is Kongofuku-ji Temple , the 38 th stage of the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Local hero John Manjiro (1827-1898) was the first Japanese national to go to the United States of America, after being picked up by a whaler.
