A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, Ayutthaya is an unmissable sight for visitors interested in following in the footsteps of the kings of Siam. Built on an artificial island formed by the confluence of three rivers, the old royal capital has retained numerous remains from its past, some of which are among the most beautiful in Thailand. At its zenith in the 17C, the city had no fewer than 500 temples covered with gold.
