Beyoglu

Recommended
The modern city that Turkey is keen to showcase to claim its place as a European nation, stretches out beyond Galata Bridge. The Beyoglu district, the heart of intellectualism in the 19C, has retained a slightly outdated feel compared to the ultra-modern districts of Levent. It is however enjoying a new lease of life, thanks to Istanbul's "movida", a youthful, energetic and creative portion of its population keen to preserve the district's authenticity. Beyoglu is also popular with the city's night owls.
