Parque Nacional da Tijuca

Highly recommended
Rocky peaks and waterfalls await you at the Parque Nacional da Tijuca, the world's largest urban forest (32km2), located in the heart of Rio. The Pico da Tijuca (1 012m) and Pedra da Gávea are among the loveliest walks, and the Vista Chinesa and Mesa do Imperador offer some of the finest panoramic views. Head into the dense Tijuca forest by cog train, fly over it on a hang-glider, or climb the cliffs, but it is advisable to enlist the services of a guide to avoid getting lost or potentially dangerous encounters.
