Rio Museu Nacional de Belas Artes

Recommended
The National Museum of Fine Art has 18 000 pieces, making it the largest collection in the country. You can see works by Brazil's great masters from the 19C (for instance, Victor Mereilles, Pedro Américo), 20C (Maria Leontina, Iberê Camargo), as well as paintings by Eugène Boudin and azulejos by Paulo Rossi. Contemporary artists are also represented; the engravings by Carlos Oswald are especially worth seeing. The temporary exhibitions held here are always of interest.
