Plaza de la Revolución

Santa Clara was the scene of a decisive battle between Che Guevara and Batista, who subsequently fled into exile. This square commemorates the cult of Guevara, with an underground mausoleum where the guerilla leader and six comrades lie in surroundings evocative of the site of their deaths. This is one of Cuba's iconic places, watched over by a monumental bronze statue of Che. Nearby the revolution museum recounts the hero's life using personal effects and photos.
