The village of San Juan Chamula, fiefdom of the Tzotzil-speaking Chamula community who are strongly tied to their traditions and known for their unflinching resistance to Mexico's religious and secular authorities. The village is renowned for its Sunday morning market, where the locals, indigenous Tzotil Maya people, come en masse to buy and sell all sorts of foodstuffs, and for the Church of San Juan Bautista, an ardent place of worship. The village is a big tourist destination, but bear in mind that it is not acceptable to photograph the people!
