Stift

Interesting
This still-active Cistercian Abbey was founded by the Babenberg Margrave Leopold III, who wanted a burial place here for his family. It has retained a Medieval church, cloister with very old grisaille stained-glass windows and Babenberg tombs. The other buildings and decoration mostly date from the 17C and 19C. Many works, including the Chapel of the Dead's Skeleton Dance, are by the Venitian Giuliani (1663-1744), who is buried in the church.
