In the Old Town centre, the imposing Hauptplatz houses still testify to the wealth of the former ironmasters. The Plague Column, with its sculpture group of the Trinity and saints, was erected in 1717. There are fine old houses in the Dominikanergasse and Homanngasse. The Schwammerlturm, with a mushroom-shaped roof, and Freimannsturm belong to the former ramparts that have often been incorporated into today's buildings.
