Philharmonikerstrasse

Behind the Opera House, at no 4 Philarmonikerstrasse, the Sacher hotel was appreciated for its private dining rooms where zealous admirers, dancers or singers could meet discreetly. Although times have changed, even in Vienna, the hotel is still renowned for its Sachertorte, the gateau served in the late 19C by Anna, Eduard Sacher's widow, with a cigar in her mouth. The gateau is still served today in this velvet-curtained tea-room.
