Place Royale

Interesting
Situated at the top of the Coudenberg ("Cold Mountain"), this elegantly proportioned, Louis XVI style square is the work of Frenchmen Guimard and Barré. It is dominated by the Church of St-Jacques-sur-Coudenberg. The centre of the square, where the statue of Godefroy de Bouillon stands, gives a lovely view over the gardens of the Mont des Arts, the tower of the Town Hall and the Palais de Justice. Recent excavations have searched for the Aula Magna, the ceremonial room of Philippe le Bon.
