Tour Anneessens

This corner tower, a vestige of the first city wall (11C-13C), was restored in 1967. It has an octagonal staircase tower and a rampart walk lined with merlons. The tower rests on two pointed barrel vaulted levels. Anneessens, who represented the trades that revolted against the Austrian government, was imprisoned here before being executed in 1719.
