Maaseik The Essential
Maaseik lies on the banks of the River Meuse, at the northeastern edge of the Limburg Kempen region, and is believed to be the birthplace of the Van Eyck brothers, Jan and Hubert. It retains some traces of its ramparts, built under Louis XIV in 1672.
