Mostar The Essential
Recommended
A gem of medieval Ottoman architecture in Europe, Mostar, the capital of Herzegovina, was devastated during the conflict in the Balkans: the suburbs and the new town, on opposite sides of the Neretva, still bear terrible scars. Huge international efforts are gradually rehabilitating the city's heritage, thanks to which the old town was named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2005.
