Roskilde The Essential
Roskilde, the old capital of Denmark, lies at the head of a long, narrow fjord. The town was founded by the Viking Harald Bluetooth, before becoming the seat of a powerful bishopric, whose most famous bishop was Absalon, the founder of Copenhagen. Remnants of Roskilde's historical past include the magnificent cathedral and the fascinating Viking Ship Museum.
