Los Mártires

Founded in the 15C, this church is very plain on the outside, but dazzles with its rich Baroque interior, which was completely reworked in the 18C. It comprises three naves with side chapels, and the ends of the bars are rounded. A cornice bearing a balcony goes around it. Plasterwork decorates the walls and ceiling, but the decor is at its most exuberant in the sanctuary and the transept. In the chancel there is a retable and its recess containing statues of St Paul and St Cyriac, the city's patron saints. An impressive coat of arms presides over all this. On a little square off Calle Mártires, near the church, you will spot a Christ with Lanterns (Cristo de los Faroles).
