Bishops' Castle

Interesting
Started in 1279, this was the residence of Bishop Gottfried of Ösel-Wiek diocese. The walls of the bishop's castle are still standing, and give an idea of the scale of this building when it was completed in the 16C. It still continues to shield the Cistercian-influenced Cathedral of St Nicholas. Those who love legends should visit on an August night when there is a full moon: you might catch a glimpse of the silhouette of the White Lady, who had an illicit romance with a cleric, appearing on the baptistry wall.
