Donjons of Eguisheim

Weckmund, Wahlenbourg, Dagsbourg, are the names of these three donjons. They are square, massive and made of red sandstone and rise above the hill top. These donjons belonged to the powerful Eguisheim Family who were burnt at the end of the so called war of «Six Oboles». This was a conflict which divided the middle classes of Mulhouse and of the surrounding areas. Upon the complete disappearance of the Eguisheim Family these three towers became the property of the bishops of Strasbourg in 1230.
