Beynac-and Cazenac Castle

Recommended
In the Middle Ages, Beynac, along with Biron, Bourdeilles and Mareuil, was one of Périgord's four baronies. Passed from Richard the Lionheart to Simon of Montfort, the castle took on its definitive form when the Lord of Beynac undertook its reconstruction. The massive architectural ensemble that you see today is the result of construction that took place between the 13C and 17C. The inside of the castle is gradually being restored to reflect how it used to look, while the panoramic view over the Dordogne Valley from the wall walk remains magnificent.
