St-Front Cathedral

Recommended
The vast Romanesque-Byzantine cathedral of Saint Front resembles St Mark's in Venice, with its Greek cross shape (rare in France) and five cupolas. It was built in the 12C on the site of a 6C chapel and was much damaged during the Wars of Religion, the Fronde and during the Revolution. It was restored by Paul Abadie in the late 19C and all that remains of the original church is the handsome Romanesque bell tower. Inside, look for the monumental Baroque walnut altar piece.
