Old Sarlat

Highly recommended
The historic town of Sarlat, so characteristic of the Périgord region, is famous for its magnificent architectural heritage of honey-coloured limestone and attractive inner courtyards. It is a delight to wander around its streets and passages in the heart of the beautifully preserved medieval and Renaissance city, stopping to admire its cathedral, 15-16C private mansions (Maleville, Plamont, etc) and squares. The Church of St Mary's, reworked by Jean Nouvel, stands on Place de la Liberté and commands a splendid 360° panorama of the town.
