The name may ring a bell on account of its famous beef, but the town has much more to offer and merits a proper visit. Redolent of history, the town has seen invaders come and go, and became the seat of a bishopric at a very early date. Its 13C-14C Cathedral of St Jean is built along the lines of the great Gothic churches of northern France; its only rival in the region is the Collegiate Church at Uzeste, last resting place of Pope Clement V.
