Musée d'Aquitaine

Recommended
Housed in the faculty of literature and science's old building, this museum traces mankind's history in Aquitaine from prehistory to the present day through extensive collections displayed over two floors. The section devoted to Bordeaux'sGolden Age in the 18C is particularly interesting. The 19C has been treated to a whole new museography, showing the relationships of Bordeaux with the colonies and overseas territories. Elsewhere, the Tayrac hoard, the Bituriges Vivisques altar, the Garonne horde (4 000 Roman coins) and the Flamboyant rose window of the Couvent des Grands Carmes are memorable exhibits.
