Salies-de-Béarn The Essential

The old town of Salies has maintained its beautiful old houses, as if preserved in the salt from its precious spring. The Saleys flows lazily through it, with a string of Bearn-style brown roofs with curved eaves reflected in its waters on either side of the Pont de la Lune. The old town is laid out around the Place du Bayaà, built in 1868 above the basin from which the salty water was drawn from the spring. Across from the town hall is the Fontaine du Sanglier (Wild Boar Fountain, 1827), which has elements of Gothic architecture. Some pretty 16C and 18C houses grace the surrounding lanes
