Landerneau The Essential
On the border between Léon and Cornouaille, Landerneau is a little port situated on the estuary of a river, and is also a large regional market. Lan in Breton means that the land is consecrated to a saint - here, we are on the land of St Ernoc or Ternoc. E. Leclerc opened his first hypermarket here in 1949 in a hangar. The expression "du bruit dans Landerneau" (noise in Landerneau) perhaps comes from the hullabaloo that the locals made when widows were remarried.
