Belle-Île The Essential
Highly recommended

Extending along the northern side of the Massif Central, Berry is delightful country, in which life ambles along in time with the seasons.
Around its pretty capital Bourges, the region is home to some timeless and charming villages: Sancerre and its vineyards, Gargilesse and its artists, St-Valentin and its Lovers Festival. One absolute must-see is Nohant, which cultivates the memory of George Sand.
Beyond its great grain-producing plains, Berry has a few more wild pockets of nature to explore. Sologne and La Brenne Regional Nature Park are good places to start. Fortified châteaux, churches and country houses are scattered about the valleys formed by the Creuse and the Loire, in which you can safely paddle, and the landscapes of bocage and national forest are the source of many a legend.
And if a day full of activity has whetted your appetite, Berry's healthy and robust regional cuisine will work wonders.
