Vannes The Essential
Recommended
In 1532, the "permanent union of the land and duchy of Brittany with the kingdom and crown of France" was declared at Vannes. This is evidence of the importance the city formerly had, and the old medieval part has kept this memory alive. However, the city where Alain Resnais was born, built in a natural amphitheatre site at the bottom of the gulf of Morbihan, has a lot more to offer visitors. It is the ideal home port for those who wish to set out and explore the bay.
