Abbey of St Germain

Recommended
Founded in the 6C by Queen Clotilde, this abbey is the city's most venerable monument. The 12C steeple, now freestanding after the destruction of part of the fabric of the church, is remarkable. The 9C crypt, rebuilt in the 9C, has some Carolingian frescoes (c 850, the earliest in France) depicting bishops of Auxerre.
