Ste Croix Gate

Rouillé d'Orfeuil, administrator from 1764 to 1789 had this triumphal gate erected by Nicolas Durand and dedicated to Marie-Antoinette wife-to-be of the future Louis XVI. It was called then the Dauphin gate. Ironically, Marie-Antoinette came back to Chalons 21 years later in circumstances much less triumphal after the failure of the «escape to Varennes».
