Place Drouet-d'Erlon

On this pedestrian square, cafes, restaurants, hotels and cinemas all contribute to the lively atmosphere. Jean-Baptiste Drouot (1765-1844) was born in the town to a popular family. Starting as an ordinary soldier, he ended up as Marshal of France and governor-general of Algeria, living proof of a time of «social climbing»; these were not just vain words then.
