Maincy The Essential
Set in the Almont valley, on the territory of the village of Maincy, the château of Vaux-le-Vicomte ("vaux" deriving from the Latin vallis, meaning valley) is a 17C masterpiece. It was built for Nicolas Fouquet, who brought in all of the finest artists of the time for the job: architect Louis Le Vau, decorator Charles Le Brun and the gardener André Le Nôtre... and it aroused the envy of King Louis XIV.
