Not far from the Rambouillet forest, the village of Montfort-l'Amaury was a simple fortress built by Robert le Pieux in the 10C. But then in the 11C, the Count of Montfort, Amaury, based himself here and gave his name to the little walled town. In the 14C, the town belonged to the Duchy of Britanny and later became a pleasant venue for roaming celebrities (including Maurice Ravel). Today, it is a resort that is popular with Parisians.
