Château de Rambouillet

Somewhat reduced in size since Napoleon I knocked down the left wing , it has the shape of a horseshoe. The great tower where Francois I died is a remnant of the 14C fortified chateau. It is inthe heart of the onstructions dating to the time of the legitimate son of Louis XIV and Mme de Montespan, the Count of Toulouse. There is attractive rockwork panelling in the «Assembly Apartments», laid out by him. You must see Napoleon's bathroom with its Pompeii - style frescoes.
