The Palace of Versailles

Highly recommended
A symbol of Classical perfection, the largest palace in the world was the sumptuous reflection of an era of intensive creation, and emblem of absolute power. Just like in the times of Louis XIV, entry to the Palace, which was built by Le Vau and Jules Hardouin-Mansart, and decorated by Charles Le Brun, is through the Place d'Armes. The circuit around the Grand Apartments takes in the reception rooms (Hercules Salon, the six adjoining rooms which make up the actual Grand Appartement, two symmetrical rooms dedicated to War and Peace, and the splendid Hall of Mirrors, a decorative masterpiece restored to how it was in 1770), the white and gold chapel dedicated to Saint Louis, the Queen's Apartment, as well as the Gallery of Battles. The façade giving onto the grounds (680m) looks out onto a terrace that offers various views of the gardens (Grounds of the Palace of Versailles).
