The Essential
Houlgate is a perfect example of those small Normandy towns where the sea-shore and the surrounding country compete in attractiveness. Many villas and chalets still survive here, in one of the first resorts of the Côte Fleurie - the Flower Coast (1858), bearing witness to the fashions of the time for holiday architecture. Their variety, number, and good state of repair make a rich and unusual contribution to the local heritage, and can be appreciated by strolling at random through the town.
