Statue of D'Artagnan

Charles de Batz, Comte d'Artagnan (1615-1673) was actually born in Castelmore Castle. The real d'Artagnan led some delicate missions (such as arresting Nicolas Fouquet) for Louis XIII and Louis XIV and, after becoming a Lieutenant Captain in the king's musketeers, died during the siege of Maastricht. A nice resumé, but that was nothing compared to the one invented by Alexandre Dumas!
