Basilica of St-Sernin

Highly recommended
The biggest and most beautiful Romanesque church in southern France, built between the 11C and 14C, St Sernin is home to the largest number of relics in France, including the tomb of Saint Saturnin, the first bishop of Toulouse. The chevet, partly made of stone, and the five story eight-sided church tower made of bricks, are magnificent. With its five wide vaulted aisles, the huge interior was designed for the use of large crowds and is typical of a major pilgrimage church which is still today an important stopping point on the Way of St James.
