Tourmalet Road

Recommended
From Barèges, the road enters the Escoubous Valley and winds its way up to Tourmalet pass, one of the highest road passes of the Pyrenees (2,115m/6,940ft); it commands a particularly remarkable panorama and is inevitably the scene of drama on the legendary Tour de France bicycle race. At La Mongie ski resort, a cable car goes up the Pic du Midi. The downward journey takes you through meadows and grazing land, which contrast with the sheer ravines on the way up, and leads to Garet waterfall and the refreshing Campan valley.
