Port of Saint-Nazaire

This port was established in 1856 (and massively extended since). Three constructions in particular draw the eye: the Louis JoubertLock (1929-1932); the submarine base built during the Occupation (14 pits with the capacity for 20 submarines); and the fortified lock. To grasp the size of the port facilities, go up onto the panoramic terraces on the roof of the submarine base, where there is a permanent exhibition tracing back the evolution of the site.
