Quartier Mazarin

Interesting
Laid out like a grid, this quarter is the creation of Archbishop Michel Mazarin, brother of the famous cardinal. It was created in the south of the old town between 1646 and 1651, after which time the ramparts were replaced by a carriageway: cours Mirabeau. Handsome town houses and elegant fountains are indicative of the residential nature of this noble quarter.
