Côte d'Azur The Essential

From beaches to perched villages, from lush gardens to the mountains of the hinterland, from heavenly islands to centuries-old abbeys: on the Côte d'Azur, there is plenty to see.
In Nice, visit MAMAC – the Museum of Modern Art and Contemporary Art, in Antibes the Picasso Museum and in Monaco the Oceanographic Museum. Still on the coast, choose the seaside resort for you: Hyères and its palm trees, Le Lavandou for families, St-Raphaël for its lively seafront or the famous St Tropez with its mythical port and unbridled nightlife. Off the mainland, the waters of the Porquerolles and Port-Cros islands boast exceptional sealife.
Inland, compare the Romanesque beauty of La Celle Abbey with the Cistercian sobriety of Thoronet Abbey. Inhale the refreshing air of the Domaine du Rayol garden and go walking in the Esterel Massif, along the paths of the Ste-Baume or Mercantour massifs.
In each town and village, wander among the market stalls, sampling their socca, pan bagnat and Menton lemons, which you can wash down with a glass Bandol wine.
