Briançon The Essential
Recommended
Ideally located at the crossroads of the five valleys of the Briançonnais and beneath the Montgenèvre pass leading to Italy, Briançon attracts tourists and ski enthusiasts, who can access the slopes of Serre Chevalier directly from the town centre. A world away from all this excitement, the fortified city of Vauban, crowned with its fortifications that have been designated a Unesco World Heritage Site, retains the delightful look of a medieval village, with its maze of narrow streets and spruce little gardens at an altitude of 1 326m.
