Théâtre Antique

Highly recommended
Louis XIV called the stage wall of the Ancient Theatre "the most handsome in the kingdom". It is made of granite and African breccia, and its outer facing is striking in its simplicity - it is broken only by the corbels supporting the poles from which material was hung to protect the audience from the sun. The statue of Augustus, resuming its place in the central niche, and a few granite rubble stones give an idea of the original decoration. The amphitheatre with its 34 stands had a 7 000 spectator capacity.
